MOVIE DIALOG OF THE DAY ― ROCKANROLLA (2008)

Connection with the previous post (DUPLICITY): Tom Wilkinson co-stared in both films.

RATINGS: IMDB ―7.3/10, Rotten Tomatoes ―59%, ME ― 75%

Roman: Uh, can we help you?
Lenny Cole: You've got an act called "The Quid Lickers".
Roman: We did, yeah.
Lenny Cole: Hmm... And there's a singer called "Johnny Quid".
Roman: There was.
Lenny Cole: Well, I'd like to see Mr. Quid.
Roman: I'd like to see him too, but uh that's gonna be a little tricky because according to the papers, the only songs Mr. Quid's gonna be singing are hymns
Lenny Cole: And I shed a tear. I shed a tear for all those bone-tops that read the papers and believe that shit. But did you see his body? Did you see him smacked-up and cracked-up with his tongue on his chin and his cock in his hand, swinging from the rafters like a real RocknRolla? No, you didn't, did you? And nobody else fucking did either, did they? Because he ain't dead. He's alive, alive-o somewhere selling cockles and mussels and a very important painting that doesn't belong to him.

Jeremy Piven as Jeremy and Tom Wilkinsom as Lenny Cole

Trivia (From IMDB):

On the day of filming the sex scene, Gerard Butler had a nasty throat infection and Thandie Newton refused to kiss him. Guy Ritchie then improvised and revised the scene into the very funny montage.

According to director Guy Ritchie, this is the first in a trilogy. Before the credits, there is a title card that reads "The Wild Bunch will return in The Real RockNRolla", hinting that this will be the title of the next installment.

Christopher Nolan said that it was his performance in this film that convinced him to cast Tom Hardy in Inception (2010) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

The house number where One-Two lives is three four.

There are two characters whose names are a reference to characters in other movies. The character Handsome Bob (Tom Hardy) is a possible reference to Jason Statham who played Handsome Rob in The Italian Job (2003), and the character Fred the Head is similar to Doug the Head in Ritchie's previous film Snatch (2000).

The character Uri appears to be inspired by real-life Russian businessman Roman Abramovich. He physically resembles Abramovich and conducts a business meeting at a soccer stadium which echoes Abramovich's status as owner of Chelsea FC.

The band playing in the club scene are The Subways with their song "Rock and Roll Queen".

The movie makes recurring use of the Black Strobe song "I'm a Man" in the soundtrack. Black Strobe became famous in the 1990s for their song "Me and Madonna", referring to the famous singer, Guy Ritchie's former wife.

The movie Tank is watching in his SUV is The Remains of the Day (1993).

Actor Matt King, who plays Cookie in this film, actually played director Guy Ritchie on Star Stories: The Wife's Life (2006). Ritchie mentions in the director's commentary that he was unaware of this until after production had wrapped.

Both Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have played villains in Star Trek (1966)-related films. Hardy played Praetor Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), while Elba played the alien warlord Krall in Star Trek: Beyond (2016).

Early in the movie, Cookie mentions "his twins", and that he is avoiding taking them fishing. Matt King's character Super Hans on the sitcom Peep Show (2003), also has twins, whom he mentions only once, and it is implied that he neglects.

The club scene where "Rock and Roll Queen" plays was actually filmed at The Subways live show in Bournemouth. They had to play the song twice.

Jason Statham turned down a role in the film due to scheduling conflicts with Death Race (2008).

Both Tom Hardy and Gerard Butler have played characters who are horribly deformed and cover his face with a mask: Butler as the title character in The Phantom of the Opera (2004) and Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

Mark Strong and Tom Hardy appeared together in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) although they never shared any screen time together.

Both Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have played villains in Star Trek movies and, along with Mark Strong and Gerard Butler, played movie characters based on comic books or graphic novels:

Tom Hardy - Bane in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Idris Elba - Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Mark Strong - Sinestro in Green Lantern (2011)
Gerard Butler - Leonidas in 300 (2006).

Ludacris (who plays Mickey in this film) starred opposite Tyrese Gibson in Fast Five(2011) as Tej Parker, a character seen previously in 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003).

Director Cameo ―

Guy Ritchie: Man on bicycle riding past Roman and Mickey as they approach Johnny's crack house.

Spoilers ―

Yuri's painting, an important connection of the parties involved in the plot, is never shown in the movie.

When Lenny Cole and Yuri are talking business after the first payment of money has been stolen, there are oranges on the table they are having a drink at. The presence of oranges foreshadows the death of a character, much like they do in "The Godfather" trilogy.

After stealing the second money delivery to Yuri from the Russian heavies and cutting the handcuffs off of one briefcase, the Wild Bunch eventually end up running off on foot in three directions. Both Handsome Bob and Mumbles are clearly carrying briefcases with the handcuff chain hanging from the handles, presumably because they cut the chains rather than the handcuffs.
